There was a time when laundry day was really an all day event.
To avoid having to quit your day job to wear clean clothes. Call me or email me and I will help you prevent the great amounts of labor our grand parents performed just to have clean clothes.
Here is an example of all the steps required to wear clean clothes before we had clothes washers.
Step 1.Fetch water from the well or stream with a wooden bucket. Pour the water into a huge iron pot, light a fire under the huge pot to bring the water to a boil
Step 2.Put your dirty clothes, sheets and towels into the hot water and Stir with a wooden paddle.
Step 3. Add lye soap (that your family made ) and stir again.
Step 4 Hard work begins pull out each item and Scrub using this washboard to get out the remaining dirt.
Now rinse all the clothing in clean water OH…. this requires you to run down to the stream or the well with your bucket again.
Ring out as much moisture as possible by hand or run each item through a ringer like this
Last step Hang your clean clothes on a clothesline to dry and heat up this iron for ironing shirts and fine linens.
Wow this is a real work out, no wonder my grandma was so tough.
